CES 2005: The Next Big Thing
Sharp's Aquos D5U and D7U
series HDTV monitors

January 8, 2005; 11:40 a.m.
Sharp Aquos D5U and D7U
The product: For 2005, Sharp is giving a slight makeover to its bread-and-butter LCD TV lines, the D5U and D7U, each of which come in 37-, 32-, and 26-inch sizes (LC-37D7U/D5U, LC-32D7U/D5U, and LC-26D7U/D5U). The D5U series has a titanium finish with detachable bottom speakers, while the D7U comes in a silver finish with fixed side speakers. In other respects, the two lines are the same: they have 1,366x768 resolution for 720p HDTV compatibility and the latest connectivity options.
  • Quick Shoot video circuitry for fast response time
  • Enhanced TV Guide onscreen electronic program guide
  • HDMI, DVI, and FireWire (IEEE 1394) inputs
  • CableCard ready
The price: Sharp has yet to announce pricing but says all the models in both lines will be available in the first quarter of 2005.

The prospects: Sharp did very well with last year's midsize LCD TVs, and if these come down in price, we expect them to be among the top-selling LCD panels in 2005--especially the 26- and 32-inch models.
