Sharp enters rear-projection

The product: In recent years, Sharp has put out some nice DLP front-projectors, but now it's entering the increasingly crowded rear-pro DLP market with two HDTV sets: a 56-incher (56DR650) and 65-incher (65DR650). The company hopes to distinguish its models from the rest of the DLP pack with a notable V-shape design.
  • DVI, HDMI, and FireWire inputs
  • HD tuners on some models; CableCard on others
  • Wide viewing angle (150 degrees)
  • High contrast ratio (1,500:1)
The price: The 56-inch 56DR650 will be available in March for a suggested retail price of $3,299.95. The 65DR650 follows in May for $3,799.95.

The prospects: If Sharp can do rear-pro DLP as well as it does front-pro, Samsung may start to sweat--a little.
