On the EDGE with the LG A7110
January 7, 2005; 5:30 p.m.
![]() The product: At CES, LG jumped on the high-speed data bandwagon with the rollout of the VX8000 EVDO phone. Fortunately, GSM users have not been left out, as the company also introduced its first EDGE phone, the A7110. The triband handset (GSM 850/1800/1900) has a sporty slider design (3.6 by 1.8 by 0.9 inches; 3.8 ounces) and a 650,000-color display. Additional features include a VGA camera with swiveling lens and flash, a wireless Web browser, text and multimedia messaging, polyphonic ring tones, and memory for as much as 30 minutes of video recording. The EVDO technology also allows for streaming video on demand. The prospects: High-speed data has been a major cell phone theme at CES. We liked that LG has addressed both the GSM and CDMA camps. The camera and video recorder are a nice touch, but we were puzzled by the lack of a megapixel camera. Also, we would have liked to see more business-friendly features such as an infrared port or a speakerphone. By Kent German, associate editor, CNET Reviews CES DEBUTS BY BRAND
