![]() Cobra unveils 12-mile-range two-way radio January 7, 2005; 4:35 p.m. ![]() The product: Cobra introduced a new line of MicroTalk GMRS/FRS two-way radios at CES this year and claims that its top-of-the-line model, the PR 4700-2 WX, has a 12-mile range. The unit also features 22 channels, 2,662 privacy combinations (38 privacy codes, 83 DCS codes), and an NOAA weather radio. More highlights include:
The prospects: The Cobra PR 4700-2 WX is a full-feature, two-way radio, and if it can live up to its 12-mile-range promise, the device will be a powerful communication device. However, these radios typically undershoot their range, so we'll have to withhold judgment until we get it in for testing.
