CES 2005: The Next Big Thing
Plustek unveils business-
traveling scanner

January 8, 2005; 1:48 p.m.
Plustek OpticSlim 2420T
The product: The Plustek OpticSlim 2420T uses power from your computer's USB 2.0 port rather than a wall outlet, so you'll have to uncoil only one cord to set it up. If you need to make scans on a business trip, this device will snuggle inside your laptop case. Plustek patented this scanner's hinged lid, which opens wide to fit bulky books and objects. The 2420T makes 1,200dpi scans from its A4-size bed, and it comes with a cordless adapter for slide and 35mm film.

The price: $119

The prospects: This on-the-go scanner best suits business travelers and students who need to digitize text documents. For high-powered photo imaging, look for higher resolution.
