CES 2005: The Next Big Thing
Frame a revolving desktop photo gallery with Ceiva's LCD
January 7, 2005; 12:56 p.m.
Ceiva Digital Photo Receiver
The product: The Ceiva Digital Photo Receiver allows you to directly receive and show off photos from trusted senders without using a computer or software. The frame takes up a 6x4-inch footprint on your desk, fireplace mantel, or grand piano. Its 8x10-inch border hugs a 5x7-inch LCD that shuffles through a 30-image selection at any given time. Via a phone line, this device spends several minutes in the wee hours of each night downloading any new photos sent your way. Your best friend could, say, snap vacation shots on a cell phone from a Bahamian beach and dash them straight to your frame for you to envy the next morning. Ceiva lets you manage up to 2,000 images of any size or file format via its Web site, where you can approve and block photo senders. This product ships with black and silver snap-on plastic frames, which also come in several versions, including wood.

The price: $149.95 and up for the 8.2-inch display, plus an annual subscription fee of up to $99.95.

The prospects: Ceiva's elegant frame best suits far-flung relatives and photo hounds who want to receive snapshots without grappling with a computer.
