CES 2005: The Next Big Thing
Brother HL-2040 and HL-2070N grayscale laser printers are
home or cubicle ready

January 7, 2005; 12:47 p.m.
Brother HL-2000 series
The product: Either one of the two phone-book-size models in Brother's new line of grayscale laser printers can fit a small desk. The modest size and the clean interface of Brother's HL-2040 and HL-2070N appeal to home and small-office consumers who demand laser clarity in their text documents. Features include:
  • 20ppm vendor-estimated text print speed
  • USB 2.0 and parallel ports
  • HL-2070N offers built-in Ethernet port
  • Both printers are Windows, Mac, and Linux compatible; HL-2070N also works with DOS
The price: The networkable Brother HL-2070N will cost $229.99; for $80 less, you can go solo with the single-user HL-2040.

The prospects: If this new pair of lasers performs as well as Brother's recent lineup of home and small-office printers, it could surpass the popular five-year-old Brother HL-1440.
