CES 2005: The Next Big Thing
BenQ squeezes double-layer capacity into slim casing
January 7, 2005; 12:15 p.m.
BenQ TW200Q
The product: BenQ's new TW200Q slim-line external DVD+/-RW drive has 2.4X double-layer recording capabilities--8.5GB of data. It offers 24X CD-ROM and 8X DVD-ROM read speeds and 2.4X DVD+R double-layer, 8X/4X DVD+R/RW, 4X DVD-R/RW, and 24X CD-R/RW write speeds. It also includes BenQ's QVideo 2.0 software, which reduces time spent capturing, rendering, authoring, and burning. The slim design can be oriented horizontally or vertically.

The price: The BenQ TW200Q retails for $349.99.

The prospects: At this point, double-layer drives are last year's news. But we'll keep seeing them come to market with ever-faster write speeds.
