CES 2005: The Next Big Thing
Canon updates Selphy photo printer
January 7, 2005; 11:50 a.m.
Canon Selphy CP-400 photo printer
The product: The shiny, silver Canon Selphy CP-400 updates the zippy, lightweight CP-220. Canon claims that this printer will create a 4x6-inch photo in 81 seconds. You can also use this Selphy to print up to 63 thumbnails of PowerShot-camera movie clips onto 4x6-inch paper. To print larger images, you can buy an additional 4x8-inch cassette. This printer also features:
  • A PictBridge port
  • Support for DPOF (Digital Print Order Format) 1.1 for batch printing
  • An LCD screen
The price: $149.99

The prospects: The CP-400 might hit the sweet spot for traveling PictBridge digital camera owners who want to share their snapshots. Still, we wish it had memory-card slots and a battery pack.
