CES 2005: The Next Big Thing
Memorex unveils executive USB flash drive
January 6, 2005; 4:35 p.m.
Memorex TravelDrive M-Flyer
The product: Memorex's latest USB flash drive--the TravelDrive M-Flyer--features a sleek, aerodynamic design and a retractable USB connector. It is rated to read at 22MB per second and write at up to 15MB per second. Announced at CES 2005, it will be available in February. The included disc contains software for security, drive partitioning, and file sharing. It will be available in 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB capacities.

The price: The 512MB model will retail for $89.99, the 1GB for $129.99, and the 2GB version for $249.99.

The prospects: As we've said before, USB flash drives are nothing new. Memorex is trying to appeal to executives and style-minded users with the TravelDrive M-Flyer, and the tactic will probably work.
