CES 2005: The Next Big Thing
The Creative Zen Micro fattens
up its line with three new
storage-capacity options

January 8, 2005; 11:13 a.m.
Creative Zen Micro in new capacities
The product: In response to consumer demand for more choices, Creative has announced three new storage-capacity options for the Zen Micro: 1GB (flash), 4GB, and 6GB, but yes, the 5GB version is also still available. For the full scoop on the Micro, read the CNET review here. Basic features include:
  • MP3 and WMA support (DRM compatible)
  • Luminescent blue border and backlighting
  • Rated 12-hour battery life
  • User-replaceable battery
  • FM radio and recorder
  • Voice recorder
  • Touch-pad controls
New features include:
  • Firmware upgrade; PlaysForSure verified
  • Upcoming firmware to support Windows Media DRM 10.0 (formerly known as Janus) for subscription-based music content
The price: $199 (1GB); $229 (4GB); $299 (6GB)

The prospects: Apparently, Creative has had trouble keeping the retail shelves stocked with enough Zen Micros to meet demand as it is. We won't be surprised if the new storage capacity options make it even more challenging for the company to keep the supply flowing fast enough.
