Pioneer DVD recorder does TV Guide
January 6, 2005; 12:37 p.m.
![]() The product: Pioneer has been at the combination hard disk/DVD recorder game for a while, and its excellent DVR-810H uses TiVo's program guide and user interface to make recordings easy. The 160GB DVR-633H is one of two new models in the company's 2005 lineup (the other is the 80GB DVR-533H) that replaces TiVo's system with the free TV Guide electronic programming guide (EPG). Our experiences with TV Guide in the past haven't been good, but at least it's free. Pioneer also added a new help menu to make recording easier.
The prospects: We haven't been incredibly impressed by the performance of TV Guide, and that's the major issue with this unit. Otherwise, it looks similar to previous offerings, although the help menu is a welcome addition. By David Katzmaier, senior editor, CNET Reviews CES DEBUTS BY BRAND
