![]() Silex brings biometrics to printing January 6, 2005; 2:35 p.m. ![]() The product: Usually you have to dash to a printer and shield it from prying eyes when you print something confidential at work. Silex offers a solution. Its SecurePrint System prevents your printer from releasing your top-secret print job until you swipe your fingerprint in a biometric reader. The bundled system includes the FUS-200N fingerprint reader and a four-port USB 2.0 device server. The SX-5000U2 device server also filters IP addresses to shut out unwanted outsiders from your work flow. The system is designed to function with any printer model. The price: $500 and up The prospects: The Silex system is priced right for companies that prize privacy. We suspect that fingerprint readers will someday become a common built-in feature in network printers, especially suitable for hospitals and other privacy-sensitive workplaces.
