![]() Samsung's 46-inch, LED-powered, LCD flat screen January 5, 2005; 11:55 a.m. ![]() The product: Samsung's new 46-incher, the LNR460D, is the first LCD flat-screen HDTV to incorporate LED (light-emitting diode) backlight technology, which according to the company, offers better color reproduction and a longer lifespan than current LCD units.
The prospects: Samsung's previous giant-screen LCD (2004's LTP468W) gave flat-panel enthusiasts a viable alternative to plasma. The LNR460D's LED backlight aims to bring LCD technology to the next level, but the stratospheric price tag will keep this model squarely in the early adopter column for now. By John P.
