Sony updates its RA-series
desktops with an eye on HDTV January 7, 2005; 4:35 p.m.
![]() The product: By refreshing its high-end VAIO RA series media PCs with HD video capability, Sony brings its desktops in line with the rest of its HD offerings, creating a synergy of sorts across its product lines. The only significant change to the product line is the availability of an HD decoder/encoder card, which, naturally, makes the RA series the perfect platform for editing movies directly from your Sony (or other company's) HD video camera. The prospects: We always welcome increased functionality, and with the proliferation of HD video cameras, adding this option to its high-end desktops makes perfect sense for Sony, especially since its desktops are so media oriented in the first place.
