![]() Minolta color laser aims to break photo printing barrier January 5, 2005; 2:42 p.m. ![]() The product: Witness the Konica Minolta Magicolor 2430DL, the first laser printer to include a PictBridge 1.0 port for printing photos straight from a digital camera. No vendor has been bold enough to label a laser printer as photo-friendly--until now. Printer shoppers have been stuck with choosing either a laser for text or an inkjet for photos. If this Magicolor produces frameworthy photos, it could blur the line between lasers and inkjets, radically reshaping the printing landscape. The 2430DL's affordability and its print speeds of 5ppm for color and 20ppm for text will likely attract more color-graphics-hungry small businesses and home users fed up with the high cost of color-inkjet cartridge refills and photo paper.
