CES 2005: The Next Big Thing
Samsung unveils photo-friendly
MP3 player at CES 2005

January 5, 2005; 2:10 p.m.
Samsung YH-925
The product: With the just-announced YH-925 audio/photo file player, Samsung improves on the Napster YH-920GS by adding a color screen and some nice feature enhancements, namely the ability to support and display photos. Also notable is the player's improved online music service support. Not only will the YH-925 support DRM-protected WMA files, it's also Janus compliant, meaning it will play subscription-based content from services such as Napster. Other features include:
  • 260,000-color TFT LCD
  • Supports JPEG, MP3, WMA, and OGG
  • 20GB capacity
  • Measures 61.5 by 106.8 by 16.6 millimeters
  • Weighs 7 ounces
  • Built-in recorder (voice and line-in)
  • Acts as a USB host (can perform file-sharing functions without the aid of a PC)
  • Comes with a carrying case, a rechargeable lithium-ion-polymer battery, and earphones
The price: $299.99

The prospects: At press time, the YH-925's older sibling, the YH-920GS, was rating strongly with users. Samsung has produced stylishly designed, great-sounding MP3 players in the past, so we have high hopes for this photo-fabulous MP3 player.
