There's good news and bad news on this front, Stuart. Yes, there is HDTV TiVo, and yes, you can get it by Christmas. The bad news is you have to change TV providers to get it, and it costs $1,000.
The only high-def TiVo that's currently available is from
DirecTV, and it's compatible only with that company's satellite service and an over-the-air antenna--not cable.
Rumors persist that TiVo will produce a standalone cable-friendly HD TiVo at some point, perhaps using the
CableCard Digital Cable Ready standard. But the product probably won't see the light of day until sometime in 2005--if at all.
