Best gaming consoles
(December 3, 2004)

I am in the market for a game system to complement my PC games. All the people I ask seem to have different views on whether to buy Xbox or PlayStation. What's your take?

Don't shop for a game console, shop for the games you want to play. While most mainstream games are available on each of the Big Three consoles ( Microsoft Xbox, Sony PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube), there are still plenty of must-have exclusives for each one: Halo 2 on the Xbox, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on the PS2, and the Zelda and Mario games on the GameCube.
The bottom line is that you should search out the titles that interest you most, then get the console that plays them. And if you want to have your cake and eat it too, you could always get multiple consoles--you can get all three for about the same price as the most cutting-edge PC video cards.
