Prepaid cell phones

For the holidays, I've been planning to buy my son a cellular phone. I don't want to put the phone on a contract. He wants to pay only for the minutes that he thinks he will use. Is there any way I can buy a Nokia phone, which is the one he wants, and use it as a prepay phone?

A number of choices exist for prepay plans, but you may not be able to get the specific Nokia you want.
Virgin Mobile offers prepay plans without contracts, but you have to buy one of its handsets, and it doesn't carry Nokias. Virgin targets younger users, however, so its phones offer themed content and features designed to appeal to teens and twenty-somethings.
Alternatively, Liberty Wireless is another prepay carrier, but it tends to offer basic mobiles only. As for the larger carriers, AT&T Wireless offers prepay service with its GoPhone service, but you're limited again to a certain number of models.
