You pose a good question that has a couple of different answers. You can go in two directions to satisfy your husband's audio needs.
The first and most common option is a multi-CD changer. You can easily find changers that hold about 400 CDs, and those that have been released in the past few years will play MP3 CDs as well (for more information on how to create an MP3 CD, check out our
tutorial). Brands to check out for this option include Sony (the CDP-CX355 or the CDP-CX455) and Kenwood.
A DVD changer, such as the
Sony DVP-CX985V will also work, though these are pricier.
The second option is less common and more expensive but has a certain cool factor. It includes products such as the
TDK DA-9000 CDRW Jukebox. This system can play CDs; it holds only one at a time, but it features a 20GB hard drive so that you can rip CDs and store the resulting audio directly on the player. It also lets you upload MP3s directly from your PC through a USB connection. One thing to keep in mind here, though, is that the Jukebox's 20GB of memory might not be sufficient for your husband's large collection of CDs and MP3s.
