Stream music from Windows
(October 19, 2004)

I have more than 25,000 songs stored on my Sony Media PC in my basement home theater. Can I use my networked PC upstairs to control my Media PC downstairs and stream music from Windows Media Player to my whole-house audio-stereo system?

This would be handy to have for a holiday party. Unfortunately, unlike iTunes, Windows Media Player 10.0 lacks built-in networking capabilities. iTunes has built-in networking so that you can stream nonprotected music to and from multiple computers.
If you don't want to use iTunes, you can still purchase a media receiver that will work with Windows Media Player to stream music in either a wired or wireless network. Here are a few of our favorites:
Creative Sound Blaster Wireless Music
Omnifi DMS1
Onkyo Net-Tune NC-500
You can get a complete list of compatible receivers from Microsoft.
