Best portable headphones

(Nov 19, 2008)

Jasmine France Jasmine France
Senior Associate Editor
The loosely defined category of portable headphones usually refers to lightweight, nonearbud models with two general headband styles: standard vertical bands that arch over the head, or horizontal designs that extend behind the head or neck. These models are usually open-backed designs, though we've expanded the definition to include any headphones that fold down to a conveniently portable design and include a carrying case, as well as earbuds that rest outside the ear canal.
