Among the very few problems CNET had with the well-received Creative GigaWorks ProGamer G500 was the setup time it took to get the system out of the box and in place; it's a problem shared by many multicomponent speaker systems. Even the wireless sets aren't immune to the criticism, as rear-channel speakers often require independent power, thus tethering them to outlets. For the next iteration in the ProGamer series, Creative is cutting the cords in a big way. For the 310-watt GigaWorks G550W, the rear speakers are powered by a wireless receiver, allowing you to put them wherever you please. We'd still suggest putting them behind you. Look for the system later this month for $400, but keep in mind that if you want the product to become your complete gaming solution, you'll need the Creative Decoder DDTS-100, which will run you around $120 more.
