Brian Tong's 2010 Stocking Stuffers

Created: 11/16/2010

Brian.Tong says: This is my 2010 list of gadgety goodness that would make my Holidays complete! Some fit in a stocking while others will just have to be mounted on a wall. I like to mount things anyways.

Apple MacBook Air Fall 2010 (Core 2 Duo 1.86GHz, 256GB SSD, 13.3-inch)

Brian.Tong says: I've been waiting to pull a trigger on a new laptop for two years, and I'm finally going to do it with the new Macbook Air. I know I'm paying a premium for the weight and form factor, but when you're all over the place, it's worth it.

Xbox 360 Kinect

Xbox 360 Kinect

Brian.Tong says: It's the most innovative controller we've seen to date. You can hate on it all you want, but once you try it, its an experience you've never had before, and isn't that what the wonder of tech is all about?

Info:

The bottom line: With its impressive body tracking and unique, controller-free experience, Kinect is great for casual gaming parties and workouts--assuming you have enough room to play it.

Panasonic Viera TC-P58VT25

Panasonic Viera TC-P58VT25

Brian.Tong says: 58 inches of 3D glory on our highest rated 2D and 3D TV set of 2010. I won't be watching TV in 3D, but I'll be doing plenty of gaming on it. Can you say NBA 2K11 and Mortal Kombat in 3D in 2011? Who cares about glasses when Sub-Zero is ripping spines!

Info:

The bottom line: With both 2D and 3D sources, Panasonic's flagship TC-PVT20/25 series plasma TV delivers outstanding overall picture quality.

Amazon Kindle Keyboard 3G

Amazon Kindle Keyboard 3G

Brian.Tong says: I have an iPad but I'd gladly welcome the 3rd generation Kindle into my stable of "gotta-have" tech toys. It's sub-$200 price point makes it one of the top gifts for the holidays and e-ink still feels like you're reading a book.

Info:

The bottom line: The third-generation Kindle's winning combination of noteworthy upgrades--an improved screen, better battery life, lighter weight, and lower price--vaults it to the top of the e-book reader category.

Samsung Focus (AT&T)

Samsung Focus (AT&T)

Brian.Tong says: This is my Windows Phone 7 pick right now until the Dell venue Pro comes out. I love the look and feel of the new interface, and it just needs to catch up with features to be on the same level as iOS and Android devices.

Info:

The bottom line: Anyone looking for an alternative to the iPhone, but who wants better multimedia features and a more organized user interface than Android offers, should look at the Samsung Focus with Windows Phone 7, which has all that plus solid performance and a sleek design.

Apple iPhone 4 - 32GB - black (AT&T)

Apple iPhone 4 - 32GB - black (AT&T)

Brian.Tong says: My personal favorite for a phone on AT&T, the carrier needs help, but this phone, all the apps and its multimedia experience make it a top pick this holiday.

Info:

The bottom line: With the iPhone 4, Apple again shows that it is a powerful player in the smartphone wars. It won't be for everyone, the call quality and reception vary if you don't use a case, and AT&T's network remains a sticking point, but the handset's striking design, loaded feature set, and generally agreeable performance make it the best iPhone yet.

I just purchased an HP 17.3 inch for $487.11 out the door. Office Depot had them for Black Friday. They had 1 left at 10:00 AM yesterday morning. I got it. It comes with an additional $50.00 mail in rebate. How did I do?
