The "cracked earth" finish on the sides of the device (7) really stand out when you pick it up. When I showed this Walkman to friends, some appreciated that the finish offers a good grip, but some thought it was just plain strange. Either way, it's certainly a differentiator compared with Apple's ultrasmooth aesthetic.
Also, that long block of FCC text (8) is a mystery. The FCC does have some requirements here, but it's unclear why anyone still feels the need to include so much text when Apple has shown you clearly don't have to.
The big Hold switch (9) on the back of the device, along with the transport controls on the top, provides a very easy way to use the unit in your pocket. It's also a traditional element of Sony design.
