Despite a tough year for the aviation industry, organizers of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2008 reported more aircraft participation than ever for crowds that exceeded expectations. The 24/7 weeklong show is the largest annual air show in the United States. (Also check out our separate photo gallery from the first days of the festival.

The U.S. Air Force on Thursday sent a Lockheed Martin F-22A Raptor for a return visit to Oshkosh, Wis. Raptors, which incorporate stealth technology, can climb vertically and maneuver at speeds from 80 mph to more than 1,400 mph.
