THIS WEEK: CAMCORDERS: DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT ONE

Of all the CNET users who say they want to buy a digital camcorder, 82
percent are buying one for the first time. The main reason? For 63 percent
of those potential buyers, vacation and travel videos are the top
motivators. Logically enough, those users say compact design and shooting
comfort are their top buying priorities.
Of potential digital camcorder shoppers, 70 percent are married but have no
children in the household. About a third of them earn more than $50,000 a
year in household income. More than half are over 45 years of age. Put all
of those numbers together, and you can identify one important segment of
the digital camcorder market: "empty nesters" who want to enjoy and
remember their new adventures and share them with friends and family.
