Why did you buy it?
Besides remote hiking, I got into geocaching, which is basically treasure hunting for grown-ups. People around the world hide little caches, or boxes with odds and ends, then post the GPS coordinates for the cache on the geocaching Web site. You can use your handheld GPS to track down the treasure, which often involves a lot of hiking, climbing, and searching, even after you find the right spot.
What does it do for you?
When out in remote areas, the Atlas gives me peace of mind, knowing that I'll always find my way. When geocaching, it is just plain fun to use.
Would you recommend it to others? Why?
The Atlas is great for anyone needing a lightweight handheld device and especially someone like me, who is much more visual and prefers the map feature over coordinates. It uses map cards right now and will soon offer topography cards.
