I am looking only to replace the old portable cassette player (music is priority). I won't buy the iPod at approximately $249 and have to replace the battery at $60 to $100 in 12 to 18 months; the warranty is no good unless you go through two batteries in less than two years. My question is: are there any MP3 players that have removable rechargeable batteries? Any information is welcome.

Good question, seeing as how many people are complaining about dying batteries and the cost or hassle of replacing them. A removable rechargeable battery is a nice feature to have since you can also stock up on batteries for long trips. Check out the
Creative Zen Micro clan, the
iRiver H10 family, or the new
Gateway MP3 Photo Jukebox. All three are classified as microdrive players, and they conveniently feature removable rechargeable cells. You'll be hard-pressed to find a player such as these with 20GB or more of storage, although some portable video players have removable batteries.
