Rogers Cablesystems, one of the largest cable television operators in Canada, has filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission to sell $58 million in @Home stock. Rogers, one of 18 cable partners in the @Home cable modem service, plans to sell 490,944 shares. The company, with an @Home penetration rate of about 6 percent, plans to use the profits to "drive penetration as quickly as possible," a spokesman said.

Charter Communications, a company owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, Comcast, Cox Communications, Cablevision Systems, and Rogers Communications are some of the investors that have contributed a total of $59 million to the company. The Austin, Texas-based company will use the proceeds to further develop its Web-based home security system. The system allows customers and alarm companies to use a PC to view activity and sounds at a residence via cable modems, DSL or wireless connections.
